About the Federation

Maritime interests are extremely diverse, but interdependent. From cargo shipping and logistics to fishing, ship building, passenger vessel operations, recreational boating and numerous support businesses, the industry is inextricably linked. By tapping into these interconnections and common goals, the Washington Maritime Federation will be an effective tool to build consensus and influence change.

Although Washington’s maritime sector is healthy, it is under threat from other regions that are aggressively pursuing the same opportunities for growth. At the same time, there are great opportunities for our maritime industry to grow, and we need to take advantage of these prospects. The Washington Maritime Federation will strengthen those efforts through:

• A communications and marketing campaign to establish the Federation as the premier place to advocate and support the goals of the maritime sector
• A focal point for information about and for the maritime industry
• A clear policy and investment agenda with broad support from maritime industry leaders and stakeholders 
• Successful engagement with public officials, non-maritime businesses and the general public that builds strong support for a thriving, resilient and sustainable maritime industry in Washington State

Industry led, the Washington Maritime Federation has begun identifying ways it can better support and grow our state’s maritime sector. Stakeholders from diverse subsectors have come together to support the industry.

The importance of the maritime industry to our state's economy and continued job growth may not be well known, but it is clear. We now have the structure in place to ensure continued support and coordination of industry priorities. Utilizing the networks of existing maritime and related organizations, the Washington Maritime Federation can amplify their effect and will be a united voice for the industry.
